Beyond the Schedule

I may not know everything on how Korean students manage their time in a day. They may also have different time management. With my student’s case, we were discussing about TIME, how to tell time, etc. In our lesson plan, we have to discuss one unit within 2 weeks! And my student and I meet twice a week so there’s a lot of stretching in the lesson, a lot more activities, etc. Good thing, this student of mine was already “nice” and “kind” compared to our previous meetings. He isa 13 year old middle school boy but his comprehension in English needs more improvement. Anyhow, here is the schedule of Ronaldo (Kyoung Rul Kim). Presentation1_1 (temporary file=too sad I can't upload the picture as of the moment) As I looked at this picture again, I tried to remember how I managed my time years ago when I was still a student. This reminds me of differences that we have in terms of studying. As I asked Ronaldo "Do you get tired?" and he answered "Yes."  If I were i...

I'd like you to meet my student, Min Seok (Tom) He's a high school student. He's smart enough to understand English lessons and also some English jokes. He's also sarcastic, smart alec, witty in the class. I like it because it makes our discussion funny. Smart alec but witty. Tolerable :) But one thing I like from him is that, he never fails to ask me "How about you teacher, how are you?" xoxo

From my Korean 학생

학생 means haksaeng, which means student When I first had my job as Online English Teacher for Koreans, I never imagined that I would get close to them and Korea itself. I entered the business way back 2008 without any knowledge about Korea's culture and language. I was still a student at that time and would work hard to earn money. I was a bit intimidated at first but when I started to learn the attitude of my Korean students, I find it soooooooooooo sweet. Though not all students I handled with were kind, others were really.........."pasaway". Anyway, I collected some of their messages to me from email. Those letters put a smile on my face every time I read them. Though, some of them had forgotten me, I'm still happy because two of them were still active and we still have communication through Facebook. Right now, I am still working at the same business, but different company. I am enjoying touching their lives and building friendship with them. Oh, not just wi...

I thank God for meeting new kids!

I am very thankful to meet new students. Korean students. Three years ago when I decided to join Online-English business. Indeed, teaching English language to Korean students wasn't that cool (at first). Korean kids are tricky.  You wouldn't know when you  can give your 100% TRUST. In my experience teaching them using the internet,  I learned a lot of things. Their culture, their attitude (their best and worst attitude). I met different students of different level, from zero-level up to the adult one. Including those who can speak English in British accent!! Today, it was a busy day. (I am very sorry to my boyfriend for not texting him today. It was really a busy day). We're going to our "new" home at the 2nd floor of this humble building of ours. We started transferring our files from one USB to our old CPU then our new one. Kinda tedious! But, I think I will really like my new station there! haha! Also, today, I assumed I'll just have 4 classes...

Her Name is ...

One of my favorite students in previous Korean company I worked with . Hee Eun Kim (Megan) She was 11 years old then. Thanks to Facebook.   I found her! Last time, (I was at Leah’s house) I called her in their house because we lost our communication in email.. (she has amnesia with her password). Her mom answered it but sadly, Megan went outside to watch a movie.   And here she is now.. Very pretty. I sent her a message in FB. And here’s her reply: Re: Megan :) oh my god my mum told me that u called me So I was like OMG..;; im in Korea now ha-ha I miss u so much..... maybe on weekend I want u to call me like um....not in the morning haha Here’s my number 010-???? -???? What a surprise. ♥♥♥

Hey Hey Hey!

Everyday, before we (I) begin with my lesson proper or just a free talking class with my students, I have a prepared greetings slide for them.  Well, I can actually greet my students and the Korean teacher verbally "Hello everyone! Happy _____." but instead, I'm preparing slides for them so it could also catch their attention, (not all students want to see themselves in the camera, haha).   It could be of any kind, theme (wholesome ofcourse), subject.  Korean students especially the Kindergarten, Elementary level are somewhat sensitive seeing visuals that are kinda fleshy or sensual.  I used cartoon characters before. I also even use K-POP artists, foods, the 7 Wonders of the World! But this week's greetings are just some cute stuff I saw in the internet! Happy Friday for tomorrow~

GOOD JOB!

I have an alphabet level student two years ago who really made an impact in my teaching career. I really cannot forget her name Kang Min Jo whose English name is Flower (cute isn ’ t it?) Our class schedule was every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. TUESDAY: She did something naughty, something bad. She drew the “ dirty finger ” in our white board. That really made me SHOCKED!! How can this 10-year old kiddo know about that thing?! Was it a fad in their country or what? THURSDAY: She came in the class, late. She said “ teacha sooorry. ” (Apology accepted). Then I told her about the incident happened last meeting. While I was telling her my sentiments “ Oh Flower, don ’ t do the dirty finger again next time... ” She was BUSY drawing on with this stuff (picture below). Oh well, she got my attention now. Say bye bye to the dirty finger stuff and say hello to this creature she just drew. Me:  So what ’ s that? A dog? Who is that? Student: nggiiiyyyaaaw … And the rest ...
